Here are a bunch of demake mockups that I've made for swedish gaming mag Level over the last years. Many of these were made quick and dirty (relatively speaking) in order to make deadlines, so they're not all that pretty to look at. But I figured I should post them somewhere so they don't just gather dust on my hard drive. Any feedback is of course appreciated.

Those are just pretty darn impressive!
Honestly, most of them are great. That's quite an inspiration, makes me wonder if I could do some kind of mockup myself.  thumbs up

I'm loving that S&P Star Successor homage right there, also that Batman one rules because its well, Batman. I'd give you feedback but it'd only end up being nitpicks, all of these fulfill their needs as far as being a piece goes, or it looks that way though, so yeah I'd end up just saying this little thing here or this little thing here looks wrong.

Rather awesome indeed.
Though I don't recognize what games are what... just, Brawl, MGS3, Katamari Damacy, SMBKart (I like the Super Sprint reference Smiley and Guitar Hero (or some such; either that one or the one with 'Sophitia' and 'Mitsurugi' would be my favorites, for the same reason:solid composition and color scheming resulting in a picture that looks like an integrated and lush whole.)

This thread is so hot it should be labelled as NSFW.
Most of them are plain awesome, esp. Bayonetta, FFXIII and Dead Space.

I think your Mirror's Edge buildings dont capture very well the essence of the original design which is more like "hospital white paint" than city grey.

Can I play these? Please? Particularly Soul Calibur, Contra (Killzone, sorry,) and Mirrors Edge look like wayyyy to much fun.
Actually.... if your down to sprite Soul Calibur or Smash Bro's, Ill code the demake... Totally not the sort of thing Id usually make, what with being utterly un-original, but damned do these look good.

These look all very nice Smiley

I am afraid tho that the Starcraft and Guitar Hero ones do not comply with C64 restrictions. I had to call the restriction supervision police and report you. They will be at your house soon.

I just had pixelgasm. This is so pretty.

Although, when I saw FF13, i always imaged a demake would be more like Chrono Trigger than FF6. You know, cause of the battle system.

You don't need to double post (in fact it's frowned upon), just edit your first post.
The second comment wasn't necessary anyway. The proper action would be to send junkboy a private message requesting his permission to use his art (rather than posting about it in the actual thread). But, honestly, this is a very noob thing to ask an artist. This site is for showing other artist's one's work, with a focus on critique. It's not a free sprite database.

Junkboy- I love all of these, great work as always. Pikmin and the cowboy scene are my favorites. The cowboy mock-up being my most favorite.
Oh, and the starcraft demake is fantastic.

Well thank you guys for all the lovely comments, glad you like them! I'll be making many more of these hopefully. During the fall/winter I hope to make some stuff that is more out of my comfort zone as far as the "pixeling style" goes. Like PC RTS' from the early 90s, pillowshaded and blobby Amiga designs and so on.

ptoing: Well you correctly identified them as attempts at C64 graphics, so I'm happy with that alone.  lol

haha this is getting posted and tweeted all over the place Cheesy  WELCOME TO INTERNET FAMOUS, JUNKBOY!

but seriously, gorgeous work as usual, the mountains and clouds behind the FF one are just giving me SO many boners.  I like to think that in the Bioshock game, the lighting would change to always focus on which layer you were currently aligned with...really liking the foreground tiles for Mirror's Edge too, clean but engaging.  great work!

I think devs should really look into these...
A 2D game can still be a GREAT game in 2010. I think the new Mega Man games on the Wii are great examples.
Street Fighter IV, on the other hand, is not.
That's not saying "it's not a good game", but why did they need to make this whole new art style?

Guilty Gear and King of Fighters are just fine with their original 2D graphics, I didn't see anyone complaining about their art, or about the fact that they're 2D.

3D is easier than pixel art is, thats why Street Fighter IV is 3D, among other reasons... Also theres many 2d video games out on the market today, i.e. Scott Pilrgrim VS The World: The Game. I also disagree with Megaman 9 and 10 (also these games are also on XBL and PSN just an FYI for you Yosh) being good examples, since a lot of sprites are recycled from previous installments, their art style isn't as much for the artistic direction as it is for marketing and raking in money, in my opinion. Anyway, I'll leave it at that I'm getting too off topic, once again Junkboy good job.
